The Matchmaking Institute offers all members of the Professional Matchmakers Association the ability to receive qualified leads. Here is a description of our process and lead referral system.

How singles find us

Many singles contact us daily. How do singles find the Matchmaking Institute? Through our latest publications (Make Me A Match through Internet search's, and through our ongoing extensive national and international press coverage. Singles consider the Matchmaking Institute as being the only authority that can provide them with objective information about the matchmaking world and refer them to professional reputable matchmakers.

What singles are looking for

They either want help locating a reputable matchmaker in their area; or they request to be posted on our Matchmaker Multiple Listing Service (MMLS), where they are pre-screened and background checked. This concept is similar to the Real Estate MLS (multiple listing service). This gives each network member great exposure to a pool of potential matches or clients.

- Single's profiles are available for matchmakers to use when matching a client: Some singles are not yet ready to commit to hiring a matchmaker, but may want the opportunity to be chosen by a matchmaker to be a match for their existing clients.
- Singles are seeking to be referred to a matchmaker as a potential client: When a single is ready to make the commitment to hire a matchmaker, they will be prescreened and referred directly to a suitable matchmaker.

How we prescreen singles

- We first determine the level of interest someone has who is contacting the Institute. We find out if the single has ever worked with a matchmaker before; how they've been meeting other singles (are they tired of online dating and the bar scene?)
- We find out their budget: Do they have the resources needed to hire a matchmaker?
- We discuss their expectations regarding working with a matchmaker: Do they have a clear idea of the services offered by a matchmaker and how to best work with a matchmaker?
- We touch on past relationship history and further develop a preliminary profile: If they are indeed interested in pursuing a referral to a matchmaker, a deeper profile will be established to be shared with the referred matchmaker.

The referral process

- We review all profiles internally on a weekly basis: we review all newly screened singles and discuss referral options.
- We review singles' budget, location and expectations, and discuss all relevant information to decide which matchmaker receives the referral.
- We determine which matchmaker is the best fit: Consider each matchmaker's niche market, location, style and fees. If all else is equal, referrals are given on a rotating basis.
- We contact all selected matchmakers to discuss possible leads: we discuss all relevant information to determine if the matchmaker is comfortable with the referral and to make the introduction smooth and successful.

Why our referrals are the best leads possible

- Pre-qualified: They've already extensively discussed level of interest and personal information.
- Single's budget is known: Matchmaker has a sense of what the single is expecting or willing to pay.
- Alerted to single's expectations: Single has already discussed what to expect when working with a matchmaker.
- Know the best time the single can be reached: Matchmaker is given an idea of single's preferred time to be contacted.
- Receive a formal introduction: Discuss single with matchmaker and introduce matchmaker to the single.
- Follow-up: Will contact both the matchmaker and the single to find out how the meeting went. Can sometimes help extinguish any doubts single may have.
- Only pay commission if lead becomes a sale: Our leads are highly qualified and are the only leads where you only have to pay a commission if the sale is made. Once a contract is signed, the Matchmaking Institute will receive a 20% commission.
- Lastly, matchmakers can also sign up some of their clients into MMLS (as an add-on "be in a national pool" service), or potential clients they can't serve or who are relocating, and receive a 10% referral commission for doing so.
